ArchiMate™ 4. A New Version. An Old Question.

On 27 April 2026, ArchiMate version 4 was released, marking the most significant revision since version 3.2. The familiar layered model makes way for a domain model. Nine elements disappear, others are merged, and relationships gain multiplicity.

But behind the technology lies a question that has occupied us for much longer: how do you keep your organization coherent and governable when everything around it changes faster than the models describing it?

ArchiXL offers a two-day masterclass for architects and information managers in the public sector. In-depth, critical, and practical.

First edition: October 2026
Trainer: Leon de Vries
Fee: €1,250 excluding VAT per participant

Second edition: in planning

In-company edition tailored to your team also available. An in-company edition can be delivered in either Dutch or English.

What You Will Learn

The key differences between ArchiMate 3.2 and 4: what has been removed, merged, and introduced

Why the layered model has been replaced by the new domain model

Understand to make you own decision if you need to migrate existing 3.2 models to version 4

The impact on your viewpoints, publications, and reference architectures (NORA, FORA, GEMMA, etc.)

Tips & tricks for relating ArchiMate to MIM, NL-SBB, and BPMN

Where ArchiMate 4 helps and where it falls short: the good, the bad, and the ugly

Programme

Throughout the training, you will work on an ongoing case study in which you progressively work on an ArchiMate 4 model. Along the way, you will encounter the same questions that arise in your own practice: which elements are renamed, which relationships break, and do I want to migrate to version 4?

We cover both the technical changes (removed elements, the Common Domain, and multiplicity) and the strategic impact (what does this mean for the alignment of strategy, business, and IT within your organization?).

Target group

For enterprise architects, information architects, application architects, and information managers already working with ArchiMate 3.2. Prior knowledge of ArchiMate is assumed. This is not an introductory course.
