Stendert is a consultant at ArchiXL with extensive experience in enterprise architecture, from developing and implementing organisation-wide IT strategies to guiding decision-making at executive and board level.

Stendert will tell you that organisations and their application landscapes are systems characterised by emergence (spontaneously arising patterns) and non-linearity. He therefore approaches architecture not as a blueprint, but through architectural interventions that prioritise insight and are pragmatic in nature. These interventions are directly grounded in the theory of complex adaptive systems (CAS) and draw in part on EA artefacts — such as those from TOGAF — which he adapts for compatibility for CAS.

A key source of inspiration is Stafford Beer, initially through his work on the Viable System Model, and later as a thinker and person in his own right. Beer operated as a complexity thinker avant la lettre: the language did not yet exist, but the intuition did.
